ORIGINS AND HISTORY
History
As Alicante Holy Week gained considerable momentum, with growing participation among young people and increasing interest from the public, the Board of Holy Week Brotherhoods and Guilds decided to organise the Brotherhood of the Risen Christ itself. This initiative was largely driven by the enthusiasm of its former president, Mr José Luis Pamblanco, since it was the only brotherhood missing from Alicante's processional cycle.
It was agreed not to establish a new brotherhood, but rather to have it promoted and organised by members of the Board, in collaboration with all the brotherhoods of Alicante.
In fact, the bearers from the Brotherhood of the Last Supper were entrusted with assembling and dismantling the Risen Christ's float and carrying it in procession for the first time at midnight on Holy Saturday 1995.
The first image to take part in the procession was created by Mr Mariano González Romo. In 2002, it was replaced by a new image sculpted by Mr Ramón Cuenca.
