Shield:
In the central point of the shield we find the Sacred Column where Jesus was tied to be scourged. In a cross way we find elements with which the Holy Flagellation and the Roman's spear were carried out. All this framed within the crown of thorns, symbol of the passion of Christ and that gives name to the Marian holder of the Brotherhood.
Dress:
It is traditional for this brotherhood to wear an aquamarine satin vesta and mask. Likewise the cape and satin sash in ivory colour. They also wear white gloves, black shoes and a Brotherhood medal.
History:
Founded in 1885, the "passage" was of great artistic quality, being kept in the church of Santa María, on one side of the altar dedicated to San Pedro and San Pablo. It was transferred to the church of Carmen, from where it left to join the General Procession of the Holy Burial on the afternoon of Good Friday, taking its place between the steps of San Pedro and the Ecce-Homo.
In 1931 the Brotherhood was dissolved and it was not until 1951 when it was reorganized again thanks to the work of Messrs. Ravelló Montesinos and Sánchez Esteve, acquiring a magnificent step by the Alicante sculptor Juan Giner Masegosa, which consisted of three figures: the del Cristo, a Roman soldier and an executioner who whips Jesus. As of that moment, this brotherhood returns to parade through the streets of Alicante, this time, on the day of Holy Monday and from the church of the Reverend Mothers Capuchinas. In 1956 he opened a new carved and ornamented throne with gold leaf, the work of the White Brothers, a passage that currently processes with the brotherhood.
In 1966 the brotherhood stopped parading and dissolved, rejoining again in 1968 from the parish of Maria Auxiliadora. The brotherhood is dissolved again, storing all their belongings and objects in warehouses that suffer a fire that devours everything stored there, except the throne carved by the Blanco brothers and an artistic embroidered banner in the workshops of D. Tomás Valcárcel.
In 1988 it was definitively reorganized in the parish of the Alicante neighborhood of San Blas, parading on this occasion on Palm Sunday in the afternoon, told for the occasion with new images acquired from the Murcian sculptor D. Antonio Garcia Mengual. Also noteworthy is the incorporation of two more steps: that of Our Lady of the Crown of Thorns, which already procession with the Cofradía del Ecce-Homo in the 50s, anonymous carving of the 20th century, and the Sorrowful Encounter of Christ with his Mother, also the work of García Mengual.
Between 2013 and 2015 the brotherhood replaced the carvings of D. Antonio García Mengual, with the exception of the Virgin, with new works by D. Antonio Martín Nieto.
