Some members perform\n            their penitential procession barefoot.\n          <\/p>\n        <\/div>\n\n      <\/div>\n\n    <\/section>\n\n    <!-- HISTORY -->\n    <section class=\"ssa-ficha-seccion\">\n      <div class=\"ssa-ficha-titulo\">\n        <span>04<\/span>\n        <div>\n          <p class=\"ssa-ficha-kicker\">ORIGINS AND HISTORY<\/p>\n          <h2>History of the Brotherhood<\/h2>\n        <\/div>\n      <\/div>\n\n      <div class=\"ssa-ficha-historia\">\n        <p>\n          This Brotherhood was founded in 1956 within the Marian Congregation\n          of Alicante, at the initiative of the much-loved and fondly\n          remembered Father Fontova. In 2000, the city of Alicante honoured\n          him by naming a landscaped square in the San Blas neighbourhood\n          after him.\n        <\/p>\n\n        <p>\n          Its Statutes were approved on 17 April 1956, stating that the\n          Brotherhood was established to commemorate the Sacred Passion\n          of Our Lord Jesus Christ during the solemn celebrations of Holy\n          Week, through exemplary penitential practice and a genuine\n          Christian spirit, always avoiding vain displays of ostentation.\n          For this reason, together with the Brotherhood of the Good Death,\n          it is one of the most austere and contemplative brotherhoods\n          of Alicante Holy Week.\n        <\/p>\n\n        <blockquote>\n          The image of the Virgin was originally dedicated to Our Lady of\n          the Crown of Thorns and took part in the procession of the\n          Brotherhood of the same name (now known as the Brotherhood of\n          the Great Power and Hope) in 1942, thanks to the Salvetti family.\n          In the late 1950s, the sculpture passed to the Brotherhood of\n          Forgiveness, which decided to change its dedication to Mary,\n          Mediatrix of All Graces.\n        <\/blockquote>\n\n        <p>\n          As the Brotherhood had no premises or church of its own, between\n          1976 and 1983 it took part in a single procession setting out from\n          the Parish of Mary Help of Christians, alongside the Brotherhood\n          of the Great Power and the Holy Supper of Alicante. From 1983\n          onwards, it established its canonical seat at the Co-Cathedral\n          of Saint Nicholas of Bari and resumed its independent procession.\n        <\/p>\n\n        <blockquote>\n          During the procession, the brothers and sisters walking in the\n          ranks carry heavy wooden crosses and torches. They pray the Holy\n          Rosary throughout the route, giving the procession a distinctive\n          atmosphere of silence and contemplation. The accompanying drum\n          band also performs a unique and characteristic rhythm belonging\n          to the Brotherhood itself, enhancing the solemnity of the occasion.\n        <\/blockquote>\n\n        <p>\n          Since 1956, the former Armed Police Corps, now the National Police\n          Corps, has accompanied and escorted the floats as the Brotherhood's\n          Honorary Elder Brother. A large contingent of police officers and\n          students from the National Police Academy in \u00c1vila takes part in\n          the procession. The Brotherhood is also closely linked to CEU\n          Jes\u00fas Mar\u00eda School in Alicante, whose members include many of\n          the bearers who carry the Virgin's float. Since 1987, the\n          Brotherhood, together with the Parish of Saint Nicholas, has\n          organised five Stations of the Cross on the five central\n          Wednesdays of Lent. The stations follow a route through the\n          Santa Cruz neighbourhood and conclude at its Hermitage.\n          These events receive support and participation not only from\n          Brotherhood members, but also from local residents and\n          parishioners of Saint Nicholas.\n        <\/p>\n\n        <p>\n          Particularly noteworthy is the raising and lowering of the\n          sculptures of Christ and the thieves, which are displayed\n          above the altar in the upper section of the Co-Cathedral.\n          This takes place on Wednesday morning and again on Thursday\n          after the penitential procession has ended. The operation is\n          particularly challenging due to the height and limited space,\n          and is carried out using cranes, ropes and the skill and\n          expertise of the Brotherhood
